Diagnostic Thoracoscopy with Biopsy

Diagnostic Thoracoscopy with Biopsy

Thoracoscopy offers chest physicians and surgeons a unique opportunity to inspect the pleural space and to reassess their approach to diagnosis and management of pleural and pulmonary disease. Video-assisted thoracic surgery; a minimally invasive technique, is used to perform stapled lung biopsy, resection of pulmonary nodules, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, pencardial window, and other standard thoracic surgical procedures. Medical thoracoscopy, in contrast, is performed by a nonsurgeon pulmonologist with the patient under conscious sedation and local anesthesia.
