The department of Dermatology at our institutions offers services including outpatient care, intensive care for emergencies like toxic epidermal neurolysis, Stevens Johnson Syndrome and extensive cases of Pemphigus.

The dermatologist and co-specialist work together as a team so that patients derive maximum benefits of multi speciality hospital. Skin diseases are on the rise possibly due to changing social environmental factors. This poses a great challenges to our department. We offer expert treatment for disorders like vitiligo (leukoderma), psoriasis, acne and eczema. Other areas where the department specializes is are pigmentary disorders and leprosy

The department has started providing photo therapy (PUVA & UVB) to treat vitiligo, psoriasis etc. with exciting result. White patches on hand, feet & ankle that are generally unresponsive to all available present treatment, we gave them permanent colour with pigment inoculation with PERMARK ENHANCER and by a combination of punch skin grafting puls PUVA therapy. Phototherapy is also an effective tool in treating generalized itching due to renal disease.

We have facilities for cutaneous surgery for skin and nail diseases, allergy skin testing cryotherapy, electro-cauterisation and chemical peels. Cosmetics dermatology is becoming an integral part of the management of clinical dermatology. So in addition to chemical peel in treating hyper pigmentation of face, we are doing micro dermabrasion to treat facial user due to acne, chickenpox etc. with excellent result. Interestingly it does not need any hospital admission or a local anaesthesia. Our institutions have started treating hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating ) of palm and axillae with localinjection of Botox, which is also effective in treating wrinkling on forehead (Frown LINEs) or near eyes (crow-feet).

The department is totally geared to meet the challenges of the sexually transmitted diseases. Patients with AIDS are being managed by department in conjunction with other specialists as needed.

Excellent supporting facilities related to Microbiology, Clinical pathology, Biochemistry, Histopathology with Immuno- fluorescence studies, Nuclear Medicine nerve connduction studies etc. are available to help in diagnosing and treating different dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases and leprosy patient that present to this hospital.

Apart from routine dermato-pathology, histo-pathology study, Skin smear examination for AFB (L) -the well-equipped laboratory provides sophisticated services like immuno-fluorocense tests for skin biopsy in case of blistering disorders. Immunoglobulin assays and complement assay hair root study. The department also has a whole body phototherapy unit for treating extensive cases of psoriasis, vitiligo and for undertaking patch tests for patients with contact dermatitis. The consultants are experts not only in skin disorders but also in STDs, Leprosy and Medical cosmetology.

Backed up by a fully functioning Urology and Microbiology set-up, the department functions in close association with Rheumatology, Cosmetic Surgery and Gynaecology departments to handle specific problems.
