Cardiology

Cardiology is the medical study of the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the heart and blood systems. This includes treating coronary artery disease, or the vessels that provide blood flow to the heart muscle. It also includes treating heart failure, or a weakened state of the heart muscle. It also includes diagnosing and treating valvular heart disease, when one or more of the four valves in the heart become diseased.

The cardiologists from our institutions have many firsts to their credit including the first coronary artery stenting in Asia, and one of the first laser procedure on the heart in India. Our institutions cardiologists are pioneers in plain balloon and laser angioplasty techniques besides cutting edge technologies like percutaneous transluminal septal myocardial ablation.

Our institutions have performed more than 200,000 angiograms and 16,000 angioplasties with success rate of 99%. CABG or Heart bypass surgery is one of the most frequently performed surgeries. Cardiothoracic surgeons have performed more than 49,000 heart surgeries with 98.5% success. The rate for bypass surgeries done over the last one year is 99%. More then 80% of the bypass operation are now done using the beating heart technique. They have also performed more than 3,500 mitral balloon valvuloplasties and 2,500 coronary stents.
