The ancient teachings of Ayurveda are undoubtedly among the most important ingredients of Indian culture. And they form the cornerstone of Somatheeram. The resort owes what is now 20 years of experience with international guests to Polly Matthew who lived in Germany for many years with his family. In his home territory of Kerala, he subsequently built up an Ayurvedic centre that adopted a holistic approach and at the same time reflected India’s culture and beauty. His aspiration was to provide Ayurveda, yoga and meditation in a peaceful and captivating setting. To satisfy this aspiration, the resort was established in a tropical garden. The accommodation was built in the traditional style of southern India, and most of the bungalows afford a lovely view of the sea. The Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort is therefore wholeheartedly committed to giving the visitor and his health authentic treatment.

Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village, a sister concern of Somatheeram, also offers all Ayurvedic packages. Its rustic-style houses resting on the slopes of the hillock overlooking the sea give the atmosphere of a village life.

Ayurveda Center

Ayurveda is the soul and essence of Somatheeram, which has been providing Ayurvedic treatment the traditional way for more than 20 years. Treatments take place under the supervision of qualified doctors and well-trained therapists in hygienically maintained environs. The herbal garden with more than 600 varieties of herbs provides the ingredients for various Ayurvedic medicines made with due care and diligence at Somatheeram’s own medicine manufacturing unit.

Somatheeram is situated on the picturesque Malabar Coast in the southern Indian state of Kerala. The location is just 30 minutes or 21 kilometres from Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) International Airport. The resort itself is situated right by the sea – far removed from mass tourism, in the peaceful neighbourhood of the village of Chowara.The popular Kovalam Beach is just 9 kms away from the resort.
