Nephrology and Urology

Nephrology is the medical subspecialty that deals with the kidneys, especially their functions and diseases. The term "nephrology" is derived from the Greek word for kidney, "nephros." Another term commonly used in reference to the kidney is "renal," as in "renal failure." This term is derived from the Latin for kidney, "renes".

Urology is the science dealing with urinary tract surgery. It also deals with all problems relating to the male genital system such as sexual impotence, infertility and prostate problems

The department of nephrology at our institutions is a professionally managed unit, equipped with a team of skilled and dedicated doctors and paramedical staff. Common diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and chronic glomerulo-nephritis can lead to permanent loss of renal functions - with dialysis and renal transplantation being the outcome. The emergence of new therapeutic interventions has enabled to diagnose renal disease early and prevent its progression.

Our Nephrology department is equipped with the latest computerized dialysis machines, reverse osmosis water plant to provide pure and trace element free water supply. Hepatitis patients are provided dialysis in a separate room. The majority of patients are given bicarbonate dialysis.

Our institutions offer Hemodialysis, Chronic Ambulatory Peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and transplantation. In addition to the basic haemo-dialysis facilities, the patients' requirement for other modalities of treatment such as continuous cycler assisted peritoneal dialysis (CCPD), continuous arterio venous haemofiltration (CAVH), continuous veno venous haemofiltration (CVVH), continuous arteriovenous haemofiltration with dialysis (CAVHD) and plasma pheresis are also met.

Our Nephrology team also provides round the clock service for the critically ill in the intensive care units.
